November 25th, 2011: Avian Friday – American Kestrel

Fir Island, Washington

This weeks bird image is from one of my favorite wildlife locations in Washington’s Skagit Valley. Several species of raptors migrate here in the winter months including Bald Eagles, Red-tailed and Rough-shouldered Hawks, Peregrine Falcons, Northern Harriers and Short-eared Owls. A natural perch for this little guy would have made a much nicer image, but the birds are not often cooperative enough to oblige.

Processed with Lightroom 2, Photoshop CS5.
