November 20th,, 2015 – Avian Friday: Anglers Workshop

Recently I’ve been processing a fair number of images in black and white lately so I thought I’d try also on another bird this week. One of the main attractions of bird imagery is their color so I was having a bit of a hard time trying to find an image that worked for monochrome presentation. I settled on this Reddish Egret for its combination of forms and textures. In the image the bird is actively hunting small bait fish in a shallow estuary channel. They will often spread their wings open to create an area of shade that lures the unsuspecting fish directly in range of that sharp bill.
