October 9th, 2015 – Avian Friday: Long-Billed Dowitcher

We get our fair share of shorebirds here in Western Washington, but most of them will be found out on the coastal waters near the Pacific Ocean. There are several species that migrate inland though and if you are lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time you can spot some of them.  Montlake Fill is an urban wildlife sanctuary here in Seattle that hosts many species of migratory birds during the spring and summer months. I happened to be there one morning when  a small flock of Long-Billed Dowitchers stopped in on the main pond for a visit.
