August 21st, 2015 – Avian Friday: Good Guys Wear Black
While looking back through my archives again this week, I came across this very common (at least to our area) little Red-winged Blackbird. As with the majority of birds, the males are the most colorful with their red and yellow shoulder badges. These guys can be found in great numbers at the University of Washington’s Montlake Fill beginning in late April through most of the summer months. I haven’t tried very hard, but I have yet to capture any real good flight shots of them. Their dark plumage makes is a bit tough to get the exposure right, especially against a brightly colored sky in the background.
