July 3rd, 2015 – Avian Friday: Angler’s Workshop
One of the more impressive aspects of the Bald Eagle is its sheer size. Adult birds average about 10-12 pounds and with a wingspan of 6 to 8 feet. Naturally they must consume a considerable amount of food to fuel their large bodies. There’s no shortage of fish for the Eagles that congregate annually along the shores of Big Beef Creek on Washington’ Hood Canal. These birds have discovered this ample food source and spend several weeks here on their annual northward migration .
