August 29th, 2014 – Avian Friday: Sir Woody
Summer is coming to a close and its been far too long since I’ve been out to take any new bird images. Here is a shot from this spring during a morning close encounter with a pair of Wood Ducks. These guys are fairly skittish and not very easily approachable, but in this case I’d been stationary at a spot near the water’s edge and the ducks came within a foot of my position. I actually had to wait until they moved away from me to capture this portrait of the male as they were closer than the minimum focus distance of the lens.
