April 4th, 2014 – Avian Friday: Quackers
I hope you all enjoyed the Bittern, Herons and Allies family theme last month. I think I’ll continue that trend through April, but this time with the Duck, Geese and Swans family which are so prolific here in the Pacific Northwest. I know my Southern California buddies get a kick out of seeing then when the pass through their region in the winter months. We tend to perhaps take them for granted up here, which is a shame because they can really display a lot of beauty if we stop to take a closer look at them.
I got out to the Washington Park Arboretum last weekend in search of the all colorful Wood Ducks. I did manage to capture a few, but also took some snaps of the all common Mallard as well. I was pleased with this shot of a female in flight as you can see some of the color in her wings not as readily apparent when they are on the water.
