March 7th, 2014 – Avian Friday: Bein’ Green Ain’t Easy
During this month I’ll be posting another series of bird images, this time based on the Bitterns, Herons and Allies family. To kick things off; here us one of my favorite smaller species of this family, the Green Heron. These little guys are quite a bit more skittish than the larger Great Blue Herons and can often be difficult to sneak up on. Around the Pacific Northwest we usually get a peek at these guys for a couple of months during the summer. I spotted this one at Seattle’s Montlake Fill and just happened to be in the area prior to it landing on this perch, which provided a nice photo opportunity.
