October 11th, 2013 – Avian Friday: “Hovercraft”

I’m still very busy these days working two jobs so I haven’t had much opportunity to get out for any new bird images.
Here is another Hummingbird from a few seasons back. To totally freeze these fast little buggers one needs a pretty fast shutter speed. I usually shoot hand-held with a 500mm Super-telephoto lens under natural light conditions. A fast camera and image stabilization comes in handy. With a bit of practice it’s not terribly difficult to come up with shots like this one.
