January 4th, 2013 – Avian Friday: American Wigeon
Happy New Year everyone! I hope the holidays were good to you and your families.
For 2013, I’m hoping to do more nature and wildlife photography and be able to continue to share new and exciting bird images with you.
Today I managed to make it out for a very brief visit to our local Arboretum at Washington Park and found a few subjects to take advantage of a rare winter sunny day in the Pacific Northwest.
The American Wigeon is fairly shy and not real easy to approach. The help of a 2X teleconverter on the super-telephoto lens allowed me to capture the detail in this beautiful species. As with most waterfowl images, it also helps to get a good low perspective at the water’s edge to help create a sense of intimacy.
