November 30th, 2012 – Avian Friday: This Is How You Fly!
Here is a pair of Snowy Owls that were wintering over on their Arctic journey in beautiful British Columbia last winter. I’m hoping to get another chance to see them if they return there again this year. In Washington State we also had an unusual high number of them visiting in areas like Skagit Valley and Ocean Shores. I snapped a few frames of these guys from a low position at a reasonable distance to avoid disturbing them. I wanted to include the mountains in the background and was treated by a nice-wing stretch by one of the females. I wasn’t able to capture any nice flight shots, but maybe it will be in the cards this season. This was processed initially in Lightroom by selectively bumping up the exposure and sharpness on the bird. I also brushed in a little Dynamic Brightness from a copied layer from Topaz Adjust.
