As with many other radio markets around the country, Seattle lost its contemporary jazz station at the end of 2010. They were the promoters of an annual two-day festival held every summer that featured a star-studded line-up. It was a venue that I and a lot of other folks in the area looked forward to every year. The past couple of years I’ve made trips down to Southern California to attend the BB Jazz Festival. Last year I had the pleasure of seeing one of the all time legends of funk guitar; the incomparable Tony Maiden, perform there with the Tony Rich Project and Rachelle Ferrell. Best known for his role in the 70’s funk band Rufus featuring Chaka Kahn, Tony continues to master his craft playing with many of the best artists in the industry. I’ve seen Tony play with a few bands over the years and his talent never ceases to amaze me.
