April 30th, 2012: Gimme Some Skin

Here is a shot of Seattle’s tallest building, the 76-story Columbia Center. Completed in 1985, this skyscraper is was the tallest building west of the Mississippi. I had originally processed a color HDR version of the image, but was not satisfied with the tone-mapped result. Curious to see what it looked like in monochrome, I opted instead to just use a single image to emphasize the shapes and forms of the towers set against the softness of the sky.

  1. Jay,
Very nice shot. You know that building is a part of my architecture career as I worked on it for over three years, designed the fountain on first floor and drew everything by hand! Jim Phillips was the Project Architect on this skinned beauty and is a very pround architect for being a part of it!
    Thanks for recognizing its beauty!
