May 18th, 2011 – PACCAR Hall

Todays image is another from my recent visit to the University of Washington campus. PACCAR Hall is one of the more contemporary college buildings. Designed by local firm LMN Architects, the project has Gold-certified LEED status. In other words, it incorporates a very high level of sustainable design features such as natural daylighting, water conservation, green roofs and building components that  made from recyclable materials which reduces land fill waste. The south side of the building houses a very cool atrium & cafe space for students and faculty to gather. I was intrigued with design of the multi-story glass, steel and concrete stairwell that connects the upper and lower floors through the atrium.
