April 29th, 2011 – Avian Friday: Red Tail Hawk

While on a recent outing I came across this unusual sight of a Red Tail Hawk bathing itself in one of the ponds at our local urban wildlife sanctuary. Most often these raptors are seen perched in trees and on utility poles or soaring above fields scoping out prey for their next meal. For these images I tried to approach the bird carefully so that it was unaware of my presence.
