April 22nd, 2011 – Avian Friday: Red-Winged Blackbird

The arrival of spring marks the return of many Red-winged Blackbirds to our local wildlife refuge at the University of Washington’s  Montlake Fill. Although the male birds (pictured below) have the more dramatic, colorful plumage, the females  are also beautiful in their own right.
