April 15th, 2011 – Avian Friday: Anna’s Hummingbird

My last couple postings have had a spring flavor that included the color pink, so when I saw this image from last weeks outing it seemed like the perfect opportunity to continue that theme. Spring also marks the return of several local birds including the Anna’s Hummingbird.  One of the most fascinating aspects of these little beauties is their incredible speed. It also makes for quite  a challenge to photograph them. They are common and often seen in the urban areas of  the Pacific Northwest. The opportunity to capture some images of them in a colorful setting is quite the bonus if you are lucky enough to keep up with them.

  1. I love all your bird pictures the best – but this is truly stunning – I think one of your best – amazing detail and beautiful composition with the nice colors.
