February 1st, 2011 – Under The Influence

For one of my first outings of 2011 I managed to catch a couple of really nice sunsets here in Seattle.  They also coincided with low tides  which allowed access to the shoreline along Elliott Bay. While waiting for the light show to begin I turned the lens back toward the city to capture this view of the working port. With most of the  downtown buildings obscured  I wasn’t sure if  I could get a nice composition from my location on the beach. Typically there are some pretty nice reflections on those structures during the sunsets. I like how quite a bit of detail is visible on the rocks and how the slower shutter speed creates a nice effect on the water. Visible in the distance is the Pier 86 Grain Terminal and Mount Rainier can be made out deep into the background.
