December 31st, 2010 – Avian Friday: Wood Duck

The Wood Duck is one the most frustrating feathered friends to photograph. Most of the time it seems like whatever light  I have shot them in they always appear more painterly than photographic.  It’s hard to capture their feather detail unless you get very close to them (which doesn’t often happen) and the lighting is just right.  I had hoped this male would paddle a lot closer to my location on the shoreline, but  I  would have to settle for an “environmental” shot on this day.
