March 30th, 2012 – Avian Friday: Reddish Egret
Here is a shot from the archives. On one of several trips to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Preserve in SOCAL I finally caught a good look at one of my favorite birds. The Reddish Egret does this crazy looking “dance” when it is hunting baitfish. It uses the shadow of its outstretched wings to corral the fish into a concentrated area where they sense safety of cover and then pick off its unsuspecting prey.

Man, that is a cool shot and a cool dance! Nice catch Jay!
Great capture!
I cannot help but notice, Jay, that you already got 5DMk3… And it is apparent you’re putting it to very proper use. Thumbs up!
